E30: Text Me When You Get Home with Kayleen Schaefer

What a treat to speak with author, Kayleen Schaefer, of Text Me When You Get Home! Check it out here!

Alysa welcomes author, Kayleen Schaefer, of the book Text Me When You Get Home: The Evolution and Triumph of Modern Female Friendship to discuss the expectations, stereotypes, and reality of female friendships. These friendships have been viewed as catty, mean, and, essentially, disposable after marriage, but, if we’re delaying marriage and friends are at the forefront, why would women give up their friends? Why would women give up their friends at all? Come join two friendship-focused ladies as we explore the shift in female friendships as eloquently and innovatively described by Kayleen in her highly recommended book. E29: All In with Coach Sue Guevara

In this episode, I chat with the amazing Coach Sue Guevara of CMU's Women's Basketball team. Check it out here

When one thinks of college basketball, friendship may not be the first word that comes to mind, but, in this episode, Alysa explores the championship culture and the traits of friendships that may be needed for teams, and friendships, to succeed. She speaks with Central Michigan University’s women’s head basketball coach, Sue Guevara, about her experience coaching, building relationships, and communicating as well as about the “all in” attitude from the very special Team 50. Coach G is an inspiring communicator, coach, and woman so it is no surprise the culture of trust and communication, often seen in friendships, that she builds with her players has led to such great success! E28: Desperately Seeking Friends in Mommyhood

Alysa chats with her friends Jenny and Amanda about how their friendships changed once they become mothers. Check it out here.

Making friends is already hard to do, but when you add in mommyhood there seems to be a further critical impact on maintaining and creating new friendships during such an exhausting, isolating, and overwhelming phase of life where such connections may be most important. In this episode, Alysa chats with her two mommy friends, Jenny and Amanda, first, about the all-important friendship origin stories and, then, second, about how their friendships changed once they became mothers. What occurs is an open and honest discussion about identity issues, trying to do it all by their mommy selves, loneliness and depression, talking with people “who get it,” and truly finding the best way to carve out time for oneself and for friends as they navigate the twists and turns of motherhood. In the end, doing so is good for moms, their friends, and their children. Share Your Friendship Stories with Alysa! E26: We All Have That One Teacher

Check out the new episode dedicated to Teacher Appreciation Week here.

Who is the person that has impacted you the most? Often, we may report that it was a teacher or a mentor that helped guide us, shape us, and or changed our lives. Therefore, in honor of Teacher Appreciation Week, Alysa gives a Best Forevers shout-out to teachers, coaches, mentors, and advisers by talking about the teachers who impacted her, sharing listener letters about their favorite teachers, and interviewing the Director of Academic Advising at University of Southern Florida, Cayla Lanier, and professor friends K. Sue Young and Howard Travis from Mansfield University of Pennsylvania. Specifically, Cayla and Alysa talk about how we can be that “person” to students by developing relationships with them while Sue and Howard share their friendship origin story with Alysa and talk about being student-centered as well as how students can build relationships with their professors. So, put aside what you know about teachers, and start to consider the genuine and authentic relationships among teachers and students!    Share Your Friendship Stories with Alysa!
